The 35th annual event takes place at the J.W. Marriott in Los Angeles, California on February 12, 2022, and will honor Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks as the 2022 Bart Staff Award Recipient for his outstanding character, integrity and leadership on and off the field. Wilson was selected by his peers in the National Football League (NFL), making this the only award – other than the Pro Bowl – selected by the players themselves.

The NFL-sanctioned in-person event, which unites fans, football legends, and community leaders, will highlight Coach Frank Reich of the Indianapolis Colts, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Anthony Muñoz, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Ryan Nece, and 2021 Bart Starr Award recipient and linebacker for the New Orleans Saints Demario Davis as keynote speakers.

Bizzell, operator of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Long Beach Job Corps Center in Long Beach California, joins a roster of local and national businesses, including Athletes in Action, ADT, Toyota and commercial real estate firm, Cresa, as sponsors of the event, further demonstrating Bizzell’s commitment to deepening relationships with companies in the Southern California region.

Bizzell To Operate Long Beach Job Corps Center

BIZZELL TO OPERATE LONG BEACH JOB CORPS CENTER

February 16, 2021 (New Carrollton, MD) – The Bizzell Group (Bizzell) was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to operate the Long Beach Job Corps Center (Long Beach, California). Through collaboration with Serrato Corporation, Bizzell will build upon the Center’s current success by delivering a broad range of support services, resources, and programs that will equip Job Corps students with the skills and education to propel them on career paths for the future.

“With record youth unemployment across the nation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, career training programs like Job Corps are vitally important to continue moving our economy in the right direction—which is why I’m honored that DOL selected our firm to lead the Long Beach Job Corps Center,” said Anton C. Bizzell, M.D., President & CEO of Bizzell. “Through the passion and dedication of the Center staff, we look forward to collaborating with our strategic partners to support each student and continue the great work in the Long Beach community.”

Beginning April 1, 2021, Bizzell will assume oversight of the 17-acre Job Corps Center located at 1903 Santa Fe Avenue. The Southern California campus will employ nearly 130 full-time staff and serve 300 students providing industry-recognized certifications in a variety of fields including certified medical assistant, medical administrative assistant, pharmacy technician, building construction technology, painting, glazing, cement masonry, and automobile maintenance.

Today, Dr. Bizzell received the National Service to Youth Award for over 5 years of devoted service and commitment to our communities, specifically to the BGCGW–Prince George’s County Region.

The mission of BGCGW is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character, and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.

The BGCGW serves kids and teens through an adopted strategy created by their National Headquarters to ensure academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Their 16 sites, covering 75 miles from Manassas to Germantown, serve as safe havens for their members. Open when schools are not, their clubs provide a safe and fun alternative to being home alone or on the street. Over 1,500 youth attend the Clubs for activities, to see their friends, and to spend time with positive and encouraging adults. They welcome every child for a nominal annual membership fee but will not turn any child away for inability to pay.
